A note from: J. David Newquist, Founder and Composer

We each have just one life to live for Him – just one generation to impact the world for Christ. Stunningly, we can now experience the immense joy of catalyzing a surge of biblical literacy and gospel expansion. Together, we can revolutionize Christian education and improve the quality of Christian ministry worldwide. Happily, an innovative musical version of the Bible that presents the entire Word of God in song will allow millions to memorize the word of God and to meditate on it day and night – obedience to Christ being the glorious end goal. We are on a journey to help people memorize the Word of God through music

Behold, I am doing a new thing; now it springs forth, do you not perceive it? – Isaiah 43:19_

“Christ loved the church, and gave himself for it; that he might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the Word! That he might present it to himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.” Ephesians 5:25-27

Let the word of Christ dwell in you richly in all wisdom, teaching and admonishing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing with grace in your hearts to the Lord. And whatever you do in word or deed, do all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him. Col. 3:16-17

The Good News

The Reformation was, in part, about the “priesthood of all believers” and about restoring access to the written Word of God. That access is now well established. The Bible for many years has been the most widely distributed and frequently purchased book in existence. In fact, 2011 marked the 400th anniversary of the publication of the famous King James Version of the Bible and 2017 the 400th year anniversary of the beginning of the Reformation. What could be a more propitious time for a new emphasis on the Word of God? The Church will not only be able to read the Word of God – now the Church worldwide will be able to memorize the entire Bible.

The Challenge

Despite the availability of the Word of God, research (Barna) consistently reveals gross biblical illiteracy of professing Christians in the United States. Only 40% of Christians can name just 4 of the 10 commandments; only 50% can come up with the name of a single author of one of the 4 gospels. If it was not so tragic – it would be funny that 12% of self-identified Christians think Joan of Arc was Noah’s wife.

When it comes to clear and fundamental biblical truths such as the sinless nature of Christ, or the person-hood of the Holy Spirit, there is similar ignorance and confusion – about 58% think the Holy Spirit is just a force – not a living being – and 39% think that Jesus probably sinned.

All through history – from the Old Testament prophets to the brave missionaries of today – faithful believers have risked torture and death so that we could treasure Word of God. William Tyndale, often called the Father of the English Bible, was strangled and burned at the stake on October 6, 1536 for translating the Bible into English. We do not honor the sacrifice of Tyndale (and thousands upon thousands of martyrs) when we (through indifference) ignore or disdain the word of God. More importantly, we do not honor Christ.

A primary mission of Word for Word is to rebuild the foundation of faith. And how does faith come? “Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God (Romans 10:17).

In the midst of apathy, atrophy, agnosticism, atheism and apostasy, there is an amazing resurgence of hunger for God’s Word arising all over the world. Word for Word Ministries offers the Word of God set to music so that we will be ready and waiting when millions of young people – on fire for Christ – want to memorize the word of God. Everything will be in place in ‘plug and play’ format – user friendly and efficacious.
